Honors: Out and About at the Phoenix Art Museum - this Wednesday
Have you been meaning to visit the Phoenix Art Museum? Do it. Join fellow Honors students and faculty for a informal evening at one of our city's best civic spaces. Wednesdays offer free admission from 3:00-9:00, so bring a friend or two as well. If you want to see the special exhibit, The Art of Video Games, it will cost you only $8. But remember that there's plenty of 'free' art to see to keep you busy all night. Worth one Hotspot Point.

Honors Forum Lecture: Dr. Luis Fernandez - next Wednesday
Dr. Luis Fernandez, Director of the Sustainable Communities graduate program at NAU, gives the first Honors Forum Lecture of the 2013-14 academic year, wherein all speakers will explore the theme of The Culture of Competition. This speaker series is among the elite events of the Maricopa Community College District Honors Program, and all members of the Honors community are encouraged to attend. The event is free and open to the public, so bring a friend or two! Worth one Hotspot. Be sure to sign in as you enter the lobby.

Honors Night Out: Hanny's and the Phoenix Symphony
Nine lucky Honors student will join English and Humanities professor Eric Berge on for a Night Out. We'll start the evening at Hanny's for a nice meal (our treat) and then move to Symphony Hall for a performance (again, our treat) by the Phoenix Symphony, joined that evening by some American Idol winners. If you want to participate in this cultural event, contact the Honors office ASAP -- first come, first served. Worth one Hotspot.

Phoenix College is hosting a Model United Nations conference wherein participants debate global human rights issues, simulating real United Nations processes. Many of the participants on the Phoenix College team are Honors students so this might be a very good fit for you. Students acquire and practice skills in public speaking, writing, and parliamentary procedure. The experience also brings a great sense of global awareness and willingness to solve problems through diplomacy. Contact Dr. Albert Celoza if you are interested in participating.

PTK Corner
All PTK members are invited to attend our next meeting, Wednesday, Sept. 11 from 1:45-2:45 in the Student Union. Meanwhile, go to the Rho Pi Chapter Facebook page and vote between Daniel Jensen and Candice Washburn for this year's chapter president. STEM EXPO:
 
Phoenix College and MCCCD, in partnership with the Arizona SciTech Festival, TGen, and the Arizona Technology Council, is hosting a STEM Internship Expo at Phoenix College on Saturday, September 21, 2013.

Students pursuing studies in science, technology, engineering and mathematics or pursuing STEM academic and career pathways will benefit from participating in this free, half-day event. 
College students and high school upperclassmen will learn about organizations in the Phoenix metropolitan area that host STEM internship programs and how such internships bridge the gap between academic studies and professional employment. Additionally, students will meet representatives from these organizations and learn what it takes to submit a competitive application for summer and year-round internship opportunities.
